The Virgins by Siddharth Tripathi : A Review

Review –

It is said that never judge book by its cover. The title gives you an impression of something else, but is not about that kind of story you are thinking about. Dirty minds! :D I wanted to read this book since I saw the trailer of movie “Raanjhnaa”. The Ghats, Temples, everything is just so beautiful. 

The Virgins is debut book by Siddharth Tripathi. The story is set up in the spiritual capital of India, Banaras. The story is about three friends, Pinku, Bhandu and Guggi. Dealing with the chaos in their lives in their own way and trying to become a man. All of them have been in lots of mess in their lives. Pinku, a 19 year old, overburdened with the responsibilities towards his family and a school dropout has a dream of marrying this girl because of whom he got into a trouble. Bhandu, his parents are getting divorced. Guggi who always want to get into trouble in name of thrill.

I will try not to be story spoiler. So better you pick the book to read and know all what happened yourself.

The Virgins is a well written book, though it took some efforts to connect well to the story as in starting it is little slow. Good thing about his book is that author has portrayed Banaras pretty well. It brings the streets, sounds and smells of Banaras alive. Characterization is done very well. One can connect to every character. The plotting of the novel is good. I loved the plot and writing style. A great debut and definitely a must read. Story is well knitted. At places, conversation is hilarious. It makes you laugh out loud. Author has great sense of humor and he has shown it in book pretty well.

I would like to rate this book 3.5/5. It worth a read. If you are looking for a light read, pick it to read. You will enjoy it.
